Koivu Deserves Some Slack

Captain Saku Koivu is suffering through a fairly miserable year by his standards - 55pts, -5 and a glaring 93 PIMs - a marked dropoff from his career high of 75pts last season. But there's a big difference this year: the team's actually winning!

Although Koivu has not been able to spark the offense or find a great deal of chemistry with old linemates Michael Ryder and Chris Higgins, he has contributed in clutch situations and always seems to deliver in the shootouts. Unlike some, this writer does not feel that the diminutive Finn's best days are behind him. Like we've seen with Alexei Kovalev this year, it's definitely possible for a veteran player to bounce back from a dreadful year. Keep the faith, Habs fans.

He definitely deserves the respect of all the bandwagon fans who are bashing him now.
