The Canadiens could have their hands on a dynamic duo of brothers, right along the lines of the Beliveaus and the Mahovlichs, if Andrei and Sergei Kostitsyn are as good as advertised.
The 20 year old Sergei won praise from OHL coach Dale Hunter as the most NHL ready of his team's forwards (and that included current rookies Patrick Kane and Sam Gagner). The scouting staff of the team took a flier on the kid with a late round pick in 2004, and he has not looked out of place this season - playing at times with Saku Koivu - while posting 26pts so far this year. But the real eye opener has been Andrei, who has finally broken out with a superb year.
Sergei plays a more physical game than his brother, probably due to his time in the juniors, and like his older bro, has a fine offensive game. It remains to be seen how long he will stick around, but he's shown plenty of poise and promise.
Andrei, meanwhile, has been on fire after a fairly sluggish start to the season. He seems to have found his home alongside Tomas Plekanec and Alexei Kovalev. He has established himself as an NHL player and more this season, notching an impressive 25 goals and 26 assists so far this year. It looks like he could be a 30 goal scorer extremely soon, be it this year or next.
